Chateau de Versailles

Chateau de Versailles
Would you believe that one of the finest works of French art, now known as the Chateau de Versailles, started as the hunting lodge of Louis XIII? This beautiful chateau is packed with loads of historical presence as each king's addition to the grounds serves as a physical timestamp. Despite its humble beginnings, the Chateau de Versailles once housed the French government and court until it was abandoned during the French Revolution. Eventually, the grounds were turned into a museum and even served as a site where the peace treaty of World War I was signed. This luxurious palace is located only 14 miles southwest of Paris and is a "must see" site if visiting the City of Love.
When you arrive at the Versailles Estate, the classical style of the building which was designed by Louis Le Vau and decorated by Charles Le Brun will completely captivate you. I took a self guided tour through the palace and was able to see the receptions rooms, bedrooms, the royal apartments and even the famous Hall of Mirrors.
The Hall of Mirrors was my favorite part of the tour. Between the beautiful artistry showcased on the walls and ceilings, the cascading crystal chandeliers and the beautiful gold and red color contrast, I was completely in love with this room. As you exit the building, you arrive at the perfectly manicured gardens  which is a perfect way to round off your visit to the estate. As a quick tip, if you arrive in the evenings, not only will you avoid the crowds but you will finish with the sun setting over the gardens. Breathtaking!
Practical Knowledge:
1. During certain months there may be a separate charge for entry into the gardens. Also, keep in mind that the Versailles palaces is closed on Mondays.
2. If you are traveling between March and November, there is no entry fee during the first Sunday of the month.
3. You should allot about two hours minimum to fully explore the grounds.
